The David James Student Award is open to students and trainees following a structured learning syllabus at AMUSF level 3 or equivalent. 

 

Generous prizes from our Corporate Sponsors are awarded to students or trainees who have produced an exceptional piece of upholstered furniture using traditional techniques. 

 

Nominations are made by tutors or employers and the cost is £10 to be paid by the training facility or employer. It is free for Certificated Training Facilities.  All applications will be made anonymous before passing on to the judging panel.

Important dates:

Tutor or employer to nominate by 21 July 2023

Applicant sends PDF/Word document detailing their piece by 21 August 2023.

All entrants and training facilities will be informed of the outcome in the week starting 11 Sept 2023

The award will be presented at The Guild's AGM on 7 Oct 2023

David James has been training upholsterers since the 1960s both in person and through his extensive list of publications. It is an honour that he will hand out the awards in person.
